- You're eligible under the 55 b/c program, OR
- To be eligible for a 70.1 transfer to Employees’ Retirement System Examiner 1, SG-9, you must have one year of permanent competitive service in a qualifying title allocated to a salary grade 7 or above. To be eligible for a 70.1 transfer to Employees’ Retirement System Examiner Trainee, equated to SG-6, you must have one year of permanent competitive service in a qualifying title allocated to salary grade 6 or above. To determine if you're current Civil Service title is eligible for transfer to this title, visit the Career Mobility website. Appointments via transfer must not result in a second, consecutive transfer with an advancement of more than two S-grades or one M-grade.
Duties
Under the general supervision of the training/supervisory staff, ERSE 1 examiner responsibilities may include the following:
- Receive, log, and prepare correspondence, documentation, and review and process member, retiree and employer applications, information and casework in the New York State and Local Retirement System.
- Receive, process, and reconcile payments made to NYSLRS.
- Research and determine eligibility, appropriate retirement plan, retirement/post-retirement benefit projections/calculations, and service credit based on Retirement and Social Security Law (RSSL), regulations, and policies.
- Perform all necessary online functions to generate a cost calculation. This includes calculation of service credit and previous full year of salary.
- Respond to telephone and written inquiries from stakeholders.
- Gather, compile, and prepare information and records for review.
- Check the accuracy of information, complete calculations, project service credit and contribution balances in the calculation of retirement and military service credit.
- Assist in the preparation of reports by gathering data, tabulating results and/or preparing simple charts.
